Greetings to all of you! The last quarter has been exciting time for all of us at IIE India, as we hosted a delegation on behalf of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC), and released a White Paper sponsored by the U.S Embassy in India, on the Community College Model in India. These have been important efforts towards increasing understanding and exchange of ideas between community college practitioners on both sides, and we hope that this is an important starting point towards contributing to the broader goal of meeting the workforce needs of local communities in our country.

Avery Dennison ‘InvEnt’ Scholarship - A platform for the BIG LEAP!
It was May 2012 and I was at home, studying for the upcoming semester exams when I got “the call”. The instant I saw the number on my cell, I knew what it was going to be about. All the hard work had paid off and I was awarded the Avery Dennison InvEnt scholarship! I had experienced such calls regarding scholarships before, but this one literally made me speechless. Being selected among top 10 students from 4 prestigious colleges of the country was truly unbelievable!

American Association of Community Colleges Delegation Visit
The last few months witnessed exciting activity, as the IIE India office got ready to host on behalf of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC), 5 representatives from U.S community colleges. From June 17th-25th, 2013, the delegation met with government officials, education administrators, and private sector representatives in New Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore.

The Maternal Health Young Champions Program
The Institute of International Education (IIE), in partnership with the Maternal Health Task Force (MHTF) at the Harvard School of Public Health administers and manages Maternal Health Young Champions (MHYC) Program which aims to reduce maternal mortality and morbidity by cultivating a cadre of emerging public health leaders equipped with the skills, vision and long-term commitment to improve maternal health worldwide.

The GE Foundation Scholar-Leaders Program
The GE Foundation Scholar-Leaders Program began in 1987 in Mexico and has grown to support outstanding students in higher education in fourteen countries around the world including India, which has the highest number of scholars. Currently, the Program supports students in ten countries.

The U.S. Community College Model: Potential for Applications in India
A new IIE white paper sponsored by the U.S. Embassy in India examines the implementation of the U.S. community college model in India and the opportunities for community colleges to help meet the workforce needs of local communities in the world’s third largest economy. The U.S. Community College Model: Potential for Applications in India, edited by IIE/India Director Namrata Jha, reflects a focus on education to equip young people with the skills they need to compete globally and in new fields. In the United States, the community college system works with local industry to produce graduates with immediately applicable skills.

The IIENetwork Handbook for International Educators
The IIENetwork Handbook for International Educators lists more than 6,000 professionals at over 1,200 higher education institutions (study abroad directors, international student advisers, university presidents, and more) who are active participants in international educational exchange. The 2013 handbook includes contact information for all IIE offices in the U.S. and abroad, as well as information about EducationUSA Regional Educational Advising Coordinators and Fulbright Commissions globally. The publication serves as a comprehensive resource tool for higher education institutions that are seeking to create international linkages.

IIEPassport 2013 Directory
For more than 60 years, the IIEPassport study abroad directory has been one of the most comprehensive resources in helping thousands of students identify and select study abroad programs. The 2013 directory includes, in one volume, both short-term and long-term programs and is divided into four world regions: Asia & Oceania, Africa & the Middle East, the Americas, and Europe. It contains thousands of study abroad program listings offered by U.S. and foreign universities and study abroad providers, along with key information on funding opportunities for study abroad experiences.

Women in the Global Economy : Leading Social Change
A recent publication of IIE, ‘Women in the Global Economy: Leading Social Change’, explores women’s participation in the economy and the key role that women play in fueling economic growth by creating stable societies. The book notes the trajectory of transformation that has gained a foothold in recent years, where investing in women is increasingly seen as a driver for social and economic development.

German Chancellor Fellowships
Applications are accepted for Alexander von Humboldt Foundation’s German Chancellor Fellowship Programme to demonstrated leadership potential and interest in international issues. The aim of this program is to target young professionals from Brazil, China, India, Russia and the USA who are likely to become decision-makers, thought leaders, and influential voices in their respective fields. Fellows will get an opportunity to spend a year concentrating on a project chosen with the support of the host institution and mentor and will get crucial boost in their career. German Chancellor Fellowships are open to an array of sectors such as politics, economics, the media, administration and culture. The Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany is the patron of this fellowship program..

Obama – Singh 21st Century Knowledge Initiative (OSI)
The United States-India Educational Foundation (USIEF) announces an open competition for the support of projects through the Obama-Singh 21st Century Knowledge Initiative (OSI). Announced by the U.S. and Indian governments, OSI aims to strengthen collaboration and build partnerships between American and Indian institutions of higher education. Accredited U.S. post-secondary educational institutions meeting the provisions described in Internal Revenue Code section 26 U.S.C.

Fulbright-Nehru International Education Administrators Seminar, October 2014
The Fulbright-Nehru International Education Administrators Seminar aims to provide Indian faculty and administrators from community colleges, vocational training institutes, polytechnics and technical institutes the opportunity to experience first-hand community college education and skills training programmes in US. Ten Indian educators will participate in the two-week seminar scheduled in October 2014. Participants will have to submit a report of their visit.

Scholarship for Higher Education to CBSE Class 12 students
The Department of Science and Technology (DST), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India awards Scholarship for Higher Education (SHE) under Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) to the students who are within the top 1% at Class XII examination conducted by the Board during the academic session ending March/April 2013.

International Academic Conference, Naples, Italy

FICCI’s Global Skills Summit 2013, New Delhi
FICCI’s Global Skills Summit (GSS) has become a pioneer event in positioning India on the international skills map. The Global Skills Summit (GSS) focuses on - release of knowledge papers in skills space, felicitation of institutions for their work in skills development, discussions for convergence of initiatives - national and international, presenting the opinions of top policy makers and think tanks, providing platform for showcasing the exhibitions related to latest developments in the skills sector both locally and globally. 200 plus senior functionaries from government, corporate, industry, private training providers, international companies will participate in this event. World Innovation Summit for Education, Doha, Qatar
Qatar Foundation is organising the 5th World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) from October 29-31, in Doha, Qatar.
